L'arte di Lana:

Video-performance "Female President"

In questa video-performance l'autrice, da un podio, narra la scioccante testimonianza di una giovane donna, violentata e torturata durante la guerra in Bosnia-Erzegovina, utilizzando mimiche facciali e gestualità tipiche di oratori e/o dittatori.

Il testo che recita è tratto dal libro Implorai loro di uccidermi: crimini contro le donne durante la guerra in Bosnia-Erzegovina. Pubblicato dal Centro di investigazione e documentazione dell'associazione di ex-internati in campi di prigionia della Bosnia-Erzegovina, Sarajevo, 2000.

Oltre alle lancinanti sensazioni che risveglia quest'opera - un misto di tristezza, empatia, rabbia e vergogna -, nel guardarla attentamente sembra che l'autrice voglia porre l'attenzione sul contrasto tra ciò che vediamo e ciò che sentiamo, giocando con abilità coi nostri sensi nel trasformare le percezioni della realtà e ponendoci in un'inevitabile posizione nella quale il nostro cervello invece di un singolo processo percettivo ora compie due separati processi e rende il "vedere" e il "sentire" di questo video in modo totalmente nuovo.

Nel 2005 la video-performance Female President è diventata parte di Big Atlas of Fayz-e Abdest dell'artista Alma Suljević, nonché parte della compilation DVD Chi sono quelle ragazze? proiettato al Quartier Museum di Vienna. Nel 2006 è stato presentato al Pitchwise Festival of Women Arts di Sarajevo, e nel 2008 ai "Giorni di Sarajevo" a Belgrado.

Lana Čmajćanin nasce a Sarajevo il 10.09.1983. Nel 2007 si laurea presso l'accademia di Belle Arti di Sarajevo, dipartimento di scultura. Attualmente lavora presso il Centro di Arte Contemporanea di Sarajevo come program coordinator. E' editorilista di INFO - digital age magazine e membra dell'associazione degli artisti della Bosnia-Erzegovina.
